I run MacSlash. I work at a government agency in Bethesda with a bunch of scientists doing genetic research. In the ancient past I managed Democratic congressional campaigns. Now I do a bit of volunteer work here and there. Everything I write is my own opinion written on my own time.

DebateDrink: VP Debate Drinking Game

In a little over 24 hours, Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. Joe Biden will take to the stage to engage in what could be one of the most interesting Vice Presidential debates of all time. Still, they're politicians and 2 hours of politicians speaking is enough to get under anyone's skin.

Take the edge off with the official DebateDrink.com Vice Presidential Debate Drinking Game. We learned a lot from last week's Presidential Debate, and added even more sipping, shots, and chugging to this version. With added rules like "Drink when Joe Biden mentions Amtrak," "Drink when anyone can see Russia from their front porch," and "do a shot when Sarah Palin speaks in tongues," you'll be all set for 2 hours of prime time debating for those seeking the one job with virtually no responsibilities.

Netroots Pioneers Join Draft Obama

I'm very excited to announce that two pretty well-known names (around these parts, at least)have joined us over at DraftObama.org as part of our  national leadership team. John Hlinko, the mastermind behind Draft Wesley Clark and Zephyr Teachout, Director of Internet Organizing for the Dean campaign have signed on to provide advice and assistance to our all-volunteer operation.

DraftObama.Org Launches

DraftObama.org launched this morning to encourage Barack Obama to run for President. I started thinking about DraftObama soon after his speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention, and so to see it come to fruition is exciting. I know we don't all agree on a choice for 2008, and some of you will no doubt disagree with my choice quite vocally, but I wanted to write a little more about why I started it, what it's been like, and how MyDD encouraged me to get involved.

Draft Obama Site -- Soft Launch

I've spent the last few days installing and configuring a new site, DraftObama.org, to serve as a grassroots gathering spot for the body politic to rally around a 2008 presidential run by Illinois Senator Barack Obama. I'm announcing the rough draft of the site in a diary here, in the hopes that others more talented and eloquent than I will join with me and help build something larger and more exciting than what's there now. In essence, I hope this will be a building block to a movement that will blossom into a celebration on a cold January inauguration day in 2009.

The Netroots Era?

The netroots era begins February 15th.

Or so says the front (and only) page at Netroots.com. Well, it's February 15th, and I'm ready for a new era. What's the Scoop?

DoNotConfirm Launches; Needs YOUR Signature!

With a petition against torture-mastermind Alberto Gonzales, DoNotConfirm.com launched its website today. The site, run by volunteers, seeks to gather signatures to present to Senators on the Judiciary Committee.

I spent most of my weekend trying to make the code work, and there are probably still a few bugs. But please, go sign the petition and share it with all of your friends.
